This past fall, I finally set foot on Chinese soil again for the first time in four years. And I noticed that it seemed much quieter.

Yes, quieter. This quietness could be due to the popularity of electric vehicles; it could also be related to the oppressive political environment. Chinese churches seem to be extraordinarily quiet in comparison to their activity in the past.

I had the opportunity to talk with young pastors in China, and I learned that under today’s harsh and comprehensive control and surveillance, churches are mostly forced to organize themselves into small groups or small online gatherings.
