Eddy & Carrie Ramos – Hope & Joy Ministry, Dominican Republic

Dear Friends and Family,

God bless you all.  First of all, in these unprecedented times, know that we are praying for you; for your health and for your families.  Some of you have expressed concern about how we are and what is happening here in the DR, so we wanted to address those concerns.  We are ok.  We are both healthy and we are safe.

This past week, here in the DR, just like in the United States, things were changing every day due to the spread of covid-19.  Early last week, the Dominican government started to put into practice social distancing measures by suspending classes and all group activities and encouraging people to stay home.  By the end of last week, they declared a state of emergency, which means that all non-essential businesses are closed, there is no school, and there is no public transportation. Basically, everything is shut down except grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, hospitals, etc.   There is now also a curfew in place.  All traffic and movement of people is prohibited from 8pm to 6am throughout the country.

We are here and we will be staying here in the DR in order to do our best to stay in contact with, encourage, help, and be there for the community we serve in any way we can, while respecting the restrictions put in place by the Dominican government.

We would like to ask for your prayers.  Pray most of all for peace for the children.  It's hard for them to understand what is happening and they are afraid.  Please join us in praying that God would fill them with peace and hope and that they would not be afraid.

We would also like to ask you for prayer for the families of our kids.  Many of them live paycheck to paycheck and most of them live day to day and with all the restrictions in place, many of them are not able to work and that has a huge effect on their ability to feed their families. Join us in praying for God's provision and for God's protection over all of the kids and their families during this difficult time.

Also, the Dominican Republic is a developing country, which means we don't have the infrastructure or the stability in general or in the healthcare system that there is in the United States.  Please pray for the Dominican government, that they would make wise decisions and that the effects of both the virus and the needed social distances measures would not be as great as they might be.

Despite the chaos, difficulties, and problems, we know that God remains faithful and that He is good and we can trust in Him.  He will sustain us and take care of us.  We believe what His word teaches us in Romans 8:28. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”  So let's encourage one another and not give in to fear. “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God.” Isaiah 41:10a

May the God of all peace keep you always,
